SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Stratford continued their unbeaten home league record when striker Gary Wareing scored the vital match winning goal in the first half to register his fifth goal in eight days. Stratford almost went in front in the 21st minute when John Mitchell was played clear by Richard Bell but having rounded the keeper the Stratford forward shot into the side netting from an acute angle. Stratford took a deserved lead in the 37th minute when Wareing took advantage of a Mitchell cross to head home from close range. Stratford dominated for long periods of the second half and they almost increased their advantage midway through the half when a John O’Brien through ball put Mitchell in the clear but Houghton advanced from goal to clear his area.

STRATFORD UPON AVON HERALD WROTE
TOWN IN HOME TRIUMPH AGAIN

Stratford continued their success run at Masons Road with a third successive Premier Division victory in ten days. Town maintained their unbeaten home record with Gary Wareing's first half headed goal the decider over a spirited Coleshill side. Starting the game with some good attacks, Town quickly forced three corners. Dave Young went close with a header before the third corner taken by Johnny Mitchell produced a tremendous goalmouth scramble during which Wareing and Richard Holt both had efforts cleared off the line. Stratford kept pressing forward as their defence continually wiped out any Coleshill counter attacks. Mitchel almost broke the deadlock on two occasions when he beat two defenders only to see his left foot shot hit the side netting and then two minutes later, what looked to be a goal bound effort cleared off the line. Town took the lead in the 37th minute. Colin Pryor sent Mitchell away down the left, and despite the presence of two defenders he sent a fine cross to the far post where Wareing planted his header firmly past the Coleshill keeper. Stratford almost increased their lead when a 30 yard shot from Young just cleared the crossbar. Town continued to press during the second half and some of their football was a delight to watch. Wareing was unlucky to have a goal disallowed for offside and John O'Brien had a left foot shot well saved. So, at the end, Town had won an entertaining game. Wareing has now scored five goals in two league games and the win pushes them to 11th in the league table.

N.B. "A spirited Coleshill side" yet not one mention of their play or players".
