Coleshill made a determined bid to end their run of defeats and dominated this match for the first hour, but after going into a deserved lead, they let themselves down, conceding two goals in the last 10 minutes, to throw away the points. With Bob Grant making his debut in midfield, Coleshill began well and Whipps forced keeper Hyland to save from a header, Gibbons then broke clear on the left, only to suffer the first of many hard tackles and Hyland held Allen’s resultant free kick. At this stage, Coleshill were on top with their midfield trio, Grant, Allen and Hall, playing some excellent football. Whillock augmented Coleshill’s attack with a promising run, but finished with a miss-shot. Hyland was again called into action, saving from Griffin, following a goal-mouth scramble. Racing replied to test goalkeeper Sammons and both Ward and Whillock were to the fore in the home defence, thwarting some dangerous raids. Coleshill were back on the offensive at the start of the second half, with McIntosh making a good strike at goal and Hall forcing Hyland into yet another save. Gibbons, still received tough treatment by Racing’s defenders and they conceded a penalty, for Allen to shoot Coleshill in front in the 70th minute. Racing searched desperately for an equaliser and 10 minutes from the end, a sloppy back pass resulted in a corner, from which the visitors scrambled the ball over the line to equalise. Another defensive blunder was pounced upon by Racing, enabling them to steal the points. Coleshill’s manager Mervyn Parsons, said “We managed many more goal attempts and Racing were lucky to be drawing at half time. Coleshill played some good football in midfield and attack and we will climb out of our present position if the players continue to show positive attitude which we saw in this match.”
